Rain? Rain? We don’t want rain on our vacations!
The great thing about coming on vacation to Lake Annecy is that even if the weather isn’t kind, there are still a number of activities to keep the whole family entertained. Here are our picks for rainy days:

Visit Annecy
Annecy is a beautiful little Alpine town, which can be visited rain or shine. The old town with its small shops, cobbled streets and arcades. Stop for an ice cream or a drink in one of the small cafés, visit the castle on the hill with a breathtaking view over the rooftops of Annecy or the Palais de l’Isle (the Old Prisons). Afterwards, walk along the paquier by the lake and visit the famous Pont des Amours.
A final suggestion in Annecy center: the free Musée du Cinéma d’Animation (CITIA) is interactive and not too long: perfect with children.
Visit the Seythenex caves
The Grotte et Cascade de Seythenex (25 min drive from the campsites) is an excellent way to spend a few hours on a rainy day. The waterfall is impressive and the caves, though small, are interesting because they are commented on by a guide in French and English. There’s also a long zip-line that’s fun for children and adults alike.
Explore the Gorges du Fier
Located just northwest of Annecy (40 minutes by car), the Gorges du Fier is a unique, unspoilt walkway that can be admired from a high-level footbridge. The trip can be combined with a visit to the Château de Montrottier, located very close to the gorges. This outing is an excellent way to spend a few hours on a rainy day.
Relax at the Vitam water park
This complex is a 45-minute drive from the campsites on the way to Geneva, and offers outdoor and indoor pools, waterslides and an adult spa. Special offer – half price on Tuesdays!
Visit Château de Menthon
This fairytale castle is spectacularly situated above the pretty village of Menthon -St- Bernard. The château offers a 45-minute guided tour where you can see some of the many rooms and see how people lived in those days. The views of the lake from the gardens are also spectacular and well worth the visit. Tip: afterwards, go and have a nice cake and tea at Tweedle Tea in the village of Menthon!
Canyoning / Rafting
Rafting and Canyoning are fantastic activities to do when you visit Lake Annecy and can be done in all weathers (as long as it’s deemed safe, of course!) More information here.
Visit theLake Annecy eco-museum
Not far from our campsite near Sévrier – This museum traces the history of Savoy in the 19th century through its costumes and objects. This playful, hands-on approach appeals to young and old alike. The visit is not too long, and Sévrier is only 10 minutes from the campsite.
More tips for families with children looking for indoor activities
There are 2 indoor playgrounds in the area Tikipark and Katapult park in Albertville and the Enchanted Forest in Annecy. Both are around 25 kilometers from our Annecy campsites La Ravoire and Les Fontaines. Nearby, you’ll also find Decathlon stores if you’re looking for outdoor equipment at reasonable prices!
